iPhone 16 Pro Users Report Major Touchscreen Issues

Issues are certain to arise with the release of a new phone, particularly one as large as the iPhone 16 Pro. Unexpectedly, after just three days of the phone's official availability, some iPhone 16 Pro owners have already begun to have problems with the touchscreen.

There have been reports of unresponsiveness from some users in the vicinity of the Camera Control button on the iPhone 16 Pro. It is possible that this is related to the accidental touch-detection mechanism on the phone. The issue arises when people unintentionally place their skin on that area of the phone.

It appears that touching the region just next to the new button is what's causing the screen to momentarily freeze. But according to 9to5Mac, it appears to be impacting the screen's four sides, which is really far more bothersome. Users report that just the home bar remains functional and that they are no longer able to swipe or press, rendering the phone useless.

Getting one of the top iPhone 16 Pro cases may also be necessary because some customers believe that the issue is more noticeable when the phone isn't covered. This just seems to lessen the frequency of the freezing issue rather than fixing it, though.

This problem is actually shown by Khaos Tian on Mastodon, who shows how the iPhone 16 Pro freezes and stops responding to touch input as soon as palm rejection kicks in. This implies that the algorithm used for palm rejection could be overly sensitive.

That doesn't, however, explain why not every owner of an iPhone 16 Pro is experiencing this issue; one Reddit user was unable to reproduce the problem using a Pro running the iOS 18.1 beta.

You will just need to attempt to keep your hands off the region right next to the Camera Control button if this is an issue for you. Lest you desire a brief malfunction with your phone. It's not ideal, but your best bet is to do that until Apple arranges for a software update to address the very aggressive palm rejection.
