Following the conclusion of the pre-orders for the iPhone 16, analysts are analyzing which variants are shipping well and which aren't. The traditional culprits aren't performing as well as anticipated, it turns out.
After analyzing sales data for the iPhone 16 models, Ming-Chi Kuo, an industry analyst for Apple, discovered that less units of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max were sold than the versions from the previous year. However, sales of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus exceeded those of the iPhone 15.
Kuo estimated how well each iPhone 16 model sold during its first several days on the market by examining a "supply chain survey" and ship dates from Apple's website.
Kuo discovered the following on iPhone 16 sales based on the data:
- iPhone 16 Pro Max is down 16% compared to last year
iPhone 16 Pro is down 27% compared to last year
iPhone 16 Plus is up 48% compared to last year
iPhone 16 is up 10% compared to last year
The iPhone 16 Plus is the clear victor for 2024, if the statistics is accurate. A significant 48% rise from the previous year indicates that while some consumers may not be interested in the Pro Max's additional capabilities, they still desire a bigger phone.
This is consistent with what Jason England said about this year's phone, finding that the iPhone 16 made the iPhone 16 Pro appear useless due to the numerous functions that were shared.
In related news, the Pro Max had a 16% decrease from the first weekend of sales of the iPhone in 2023. Though it might not be enough to keep it from being among the best phones once we get an opportunity to evaluate it, the basic Pro was also down an astounding 27%, making it the greatest iPhone 16 release window loser.
Kuo claims that compared to the iPhone 15, none of the iPhone 16 versions sold as well. Apple sold over 37 million devices during the first weekend of release, a decrease of about 12.7% from the iPhone 15 range. Although there was a significant increase in demand for the iPhone 16 Plus, Kuo pointed out that it was not enough to compensate for the subpar performance of the Pro versions.
The fact that Apple has much more iPhone 16 Pro Max models ready for release than iPhone 15 Pro Max phones is another intriguing finding from Kuo's assessment. In anticipation of launch day, the business prepared 106% more devices thanks to increased yields on the tetraprism camera.
