Just a few days remain until Apple's massive Glowtime event on Monday, and the rumors aren't going to stop. The highlight of the presentation will definitely be the iPhone 16 range, but we also anticipate the AirPods 4 and the Apple Watch Series 10 (or Apple Watch X) to be unveiled. According to two recent reports, the next Apple Watch will have an upgraded ECG sensor that can identify sleep apnea.
According to 9to5Mac, people with knowledge of Apple's intentions, the improved ECG/heart rate sensor can provide more precise findings, which will allow the Apple Watch Series 10 to unlock additional functions. This supports a story from Bloomberg on Friday that said Apple had been working on sleep apnea detection for a while and that it will eventually be included in its upcoming line of smartwatches.
According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, the primary feature of the Series 10 and Ultra 3 will be sleep apnea diagnosis. When a user exhibits symptoms of sleep apnea, such as breathing that begins and stops often during the night, the watches will be able to identify it and suggest that they see a doctor for more support.
Presumably, it would function in a manner like to the way the Apple Watch already warns users to changes in blood oxygen levels, irregular heart rate, and other health issues. It's likely that the sleep apnea capability will be connected to the recently released watchOS 11 public beta of the Vitals health app. This app provides an overview of all your important wellness indicators, which the Apple Watch tracks while you sleep, by streamlining the device's health monitoring features.
The way Apple's smartwatches interpret the health information gathered by these sensors is also being changed, according to 9to5Mac: "This includes using new algorithms in the Health app on the iPhone to look for atrial fibrillation, rather than on the Apple Watch itself." It's unknown if the Apple Watch Ultra 3 will receive the same enhancements, but considering Apple's prior wristwatch releases, our assumption is that it probably will.
Gurman issued a warning, stating that even if Apple plans to reveal the feature on Monday, it could not be readily available when the new devices go on sale. A future watchOS software version may provide the capability.
Apple Watch 10: Enhanced Water Resistance & New Watch Faces Leak
Not all of the new features slated for Apple's next smartwatches are related to an improved ECG sensor. According to 9to5Mac, the Apple Watch Series 10 will be approved for "high-speed water sports up to 20 meters deep," which implies that the Depth app—currently available only on the Apple Watch Ultra—will be compatible with the device. During each underwater session, this app keeps track of the duration, depth, water temperature, and maximum depth. Although the current Apple Watch Series 9 is water resistant to 50 meters, it is not advised for submersion below shallow depths or high-velocity aquatic sports.
Prior tidings have indicated that Apple is increasing the screen size of the Apple Watch Series 10, going from 41mm and 45mm to 44mm and 48mm possibilities. Apple appears to be intending to release additional watch faces to capitalize on the extra display real estate. These include a new Hermès option dubbed "Regatta" that makes it easier for customers to start timers and a "Reflections" option that responds to ambient light.
Naturally, for the time being, we'll have to take all of this with a grain of salt. However, there won't be much time to wait for an update from Apple. you ensure you don't miss the major event, be sure you read about how to watch the Apple Glowtime event in the meantime.
